Call for Submissions

The European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS), with the continued generous support of the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines (FFQM), is pleased to announce the FFQM–EUFEPS Pearl Award for Biopharmaceutics & Nanomedicine.

The award continues the successful tradition of the Pearls of Bioequivalence Award, which was established and supported by FFQM to recognise outstanding scientific achievements in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical research.

With the award now being hosted by EUFEPS, its scientific scope is broadened to reflect the rapid developments at the interface of nanomedicine, biopharmaceutics and advanced drug delivery. The annual award will recognise outstanding research that contributes to a better understanding, development or application of innovative pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical technologies.

The award particularly seeks to recognise research that bridges fundamental pharmaceutical sciences with the development and evaluation of innovative medicines, including novel drug delivery systems and nanomedicines.

The award aims to recognise work demonstrating scientific excellence, originality, innovation and relevance and having the potential to advance pharmaceutical science and contribute to the development of better medicines.

Eligibility

The award is open to scientists from academia, industry, research institutions and other organisations working in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, nanomedicine, biopharmaceutics or related disciplines.

Applications must be based on publications in peer reviewed scientific journals or meaningful summaries of research projects and should not be older than three years at the time of submission.

Self-nominations are welcome. Nominations of outstanding work by colleagues or research groups are also encouraged.

Evaluation

Submissions will be evaluated by an expert jury appointed by EUFEPS. The following criteria will be considered:

• Scientific excellence and quality
• Originality and innovation
• Scientific significance
• Relevance to nanomedicine and/or biopharmaceutics
• Potential impact on pharmaceutical research and development
• Translational relevance
• Potential contribution to the development of improved medicines

The Award

The FFQM–EUFEPS Pearl Award for Biopharmaceutics & Nanomedicine will be presented annually during the EUFEPS Annual Meeting.

The award is generously sponsored by the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines (FFQM) and includes a prize of € 2.000 and an official award certificate.

The award recipient will be announced through the EUFEPS communication channels and honoured during the EUFEPS Annual Meeting.

Submission

The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2026.

We invite pharmaceutical scientists from Europe and beyond to nominate and submit outstanding research contributing to the advancement of nanomedicine, biopharmaceutics and innovative drug delivery.

Award Announcement:

The winner will be announced on the websites of the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines (https://frankfurt-foundation.org) and EUFEPS (https://eufeps.org). The award will be presented at the EUFEPS Annual Conference 2027 in Krakow / Poland (19-21 May 2027).
