EUFEPS congratulates founding President Prof. Dr. Dr. Ernst Mutschler with his 90th birthday!

A true icon in the field, a role model for many and gifted with extraordinary scientific qualities, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ernst Mutschler reaches the age of 90 years.
Prof Mutschler studied Pharmacy in Munich and Tübingen. For his doctoral thesis, he moved to Mainz where he received his PhD in 1959 and his habilitation in 1964. In parallel, he studied medicine and received his MD in 1966. In 1968 he became professor at the Pharmaceutical Institute in Mainz and in 1973 he was appointed full professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt where he stayed until he became emeritus in 1997.
Prof. Mutschler has been an outstanding teacher and author of numerous standard textbooks of pharmacology and medicines research in the most broadest sense. He is a distinguished scientist and his publications range from pharmacology to medicinal chemistry. He received many well renowned prizes such as the Carl-Mannich-Medal of the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG), the Oswald-Schmiedeberg-Medal of DGPT and the Høst-Madsen-Medal from FIP. His broad interest in pharmaceutical sciences and his engagement for the advancement in drug research is also highlighted by his activities in scientific societies at the national and European level. He was President of the German Pharmaceutical Society and chairman of the Fachgruppe Medicinal Chemistry of GDCh.
He was also strongly engaged in the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences, in Europe and worldwide. He was one of the three founders of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) where he served as the first President in 1991-1994 and contributed significantly to the sustainable establishment of EUFEPS as an organization fostering the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences at the European level for almost three decades.
