17th EUFEPS Talks

Virtuelles Meeting

We want to invite you to the 17th EUFEPS Talks on September 23, 2024 at 4 pm CEST.

Ravi Kumar will give a talk with the title: "Urolithin A nanoparticle therapy for chemotherapy-induced acute kidney injury".

Abstract:

Acute kidney injury (AKI) currently has no FDA-approved drugs for its prevention or treatment. AKI is a multifaceted syndrome that occurs in different settings and is associated with lengthy hospital stays, considerable morbidity and mortality, and high costs across a broad spectrum of conditions. Emerging evidence from laboratory and clinical studies suggests the pathogenesis involves reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, activation of inflammatory and apoptotic pathways; therefore, regulating these pathways offer protection. In this context, Urolithin A (UA), a gut metabolite of the dietary tannin ellagic acid, possesses antioxidant properties and has shown promise in mouse models of AKI. However, UA is poorly bioavailable requiring high doses and repeated administration, making it difficult for clinical translation. In this talk, I will discuss the progress we have made in developing urolithin A nanoparticles as a potential therapy for chemotherapy-induced AKI.
